Declutter Your Closet for Dress for Success

When we clear out and purge our closet, we are working towards a more streamlined version of ourselves. Donating the things we no longer need has lots of positive results. Studies show that making a charitable donation activates the reward center of our brains. In fact, those who donate to charity have less stress and feel happier knowing that they are making a difference in the world. And knowing exactly who is receiving your donated items can be immensely satisfying.

So, when you find yourself with workforce clothes that you are ready to retire, give them a second career with Dress for Success!

Dress for Success Central Virginia is based in Richmond and is part of the worldwide organization that helps suit women and prepare them to return to the workforce after overcoming poverty or abuse. Each affiliate relies on the local community’s donations of job appropriate clothing to dress their clients.

Each client comes to DFSCVA through a referral and already has a job interview lined up. A personal stylist from DFS will help pick out the perfect interview outfit – a suit jacket and pants, blouse, shoes, and accessories like jewelry and a purse. If the client gets the job, she is welcomed back to pick up a week’s worth of work clothing and accessories.

But Dress for Success is about more than just the outfit. It is about empowering women to have safer and more prosperous futures through the assistance of the Career Center and Professional Women’s Group. These programs offer mock interviews and basic job etiquette skills, professional development, and career counseling.

Abundance Organizing has chosen Dress for Success as our Community Outreach program partner for 2019. We are excited to help our clients with our closet clean-out expertise and to help Dress for Success by bringing job appropriate donations to them directly!
