Clutter-free Gift Idea – What to Give When Someone Has Too Much
We all know someone who has a LOT of stuff. Their home is full of chotchkies, clothes, handbags, candles, jewelry, linens… everything! But it’s their birthday, anniversary, or any one of the many other holidays that carry with them the expectation of a gift.
We all know someone who has a LOT of stuff. Their home is full of chotchkies, clothes, handbags, candles, jewelry, linens… everything! But it’s their birthday, anniversary, or any one of the many other holidays that carry with them the expectation of a gift.
We understand the struggle. You don’t want to give something that will just collect dust or be tossed among the piles. You want to be thoughtful without adding to the clutter. So what do you do?
In the organizing world, we extol the virtues of “clutter-free gifting.” It’s a way of giving that won’t leave a person overwhelmed with more stuff. These gifts can be consumable, like flowers or a gourmet treat, or they can be experiences, like tickets to a concert or museum. You can get really creative when making clutter-free gifts. You might create a babysitter coupon book, or offer to detail their car, or make a quilt with items they already have. There are so many ways to give mindfully and clutter-free.
Because organizers are particularly clutter-conscious, we strive to give our team clutter-free gifts as well. Recently, Abundance Organizing took a road trip to the Biltmore in Asheville, North Carolina, for our company’s annual retreat. The retreat involves several days of intense training, so to keep everyone’s energy up, we like to provide something to munch on between meals. This year we made healthy and delicious snack jars.
We stuffed the jars with apricots, chocolate chips, almonds, pretzels, dried cranberries, sesame crackers, apples, clementines, and banana chips! All the snacks were packed into quart-sized Mason jars with lids covered with craft paper and ribbon. Our team loved getting something they could use and enjoy. Maybe this idea will inspire you to create a clutter-free gift for someone you love.
